Assistant water polo coach, Collan Rex, has pleaded guilty to 144 charges of sexual assault.

Prosecutors will now ask an expert to prove that he was also involved in 183 additional charges ranging from attempted murder, rape, sexual grooming and exposing minors to pornography.

The National Prosecuting Authority's Phindi Mjonondwane says the case will return to the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court on Monday.

The 22-year-old's alleged abuse of leaners came to light after he was seen in footage fondling a 15-year-old pupil's private parts at the school's hostel in 2016.

"The state will be calling its first witness to try and prove the remining 183 charges to which Mr. Rex has pleaded not guilty," says Mjonondwane.

However, this is not the only claim of abuse at the prestigious school in Johannesburg.

In June, provincial Gauteng MEC, Panyaza Lesufi visited the school after teachers were fired for alleged misconduct and racism.

An investigation has implicated nine teachers in the alleged victimisation of learners who spoke out against improper behaviour.
