Still no integrity committee report on Phala Phala, says Mashatile

ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile says while the party’s integrity committee did submit reports to the NEC at the weekend gathering, none of the reports were about the controversial Phala Phala scandal plaguing their president.
Weekend reports suggest a heated debate on the theft of alleged proceeds from the sale of game on Cyril Ramaphosa’s private farm, and related claims the president was involved in money laundering and concealment of a crime, took place with some NEC members calling on Ramaphosa to take the party into his confidence and account.
Mashatile reiterated that was no report on the saga that was tabled.
“The integrity committee reports to the NEC whenever there are issues that they want to report. That’s why I said on Friday there is a report that was going to be tabled. It had nothing to do with Phala Phala. It was a report from the integrity committee on other matters, and that report was tabled and noted by the NEC,” Mashatile said.
The treasurer-general said while there has been a purported draft report was leaked to the media, the integrity committee is yet to complete and submit a report.
“On matters that affect the president, the integrity committee is still working on those matters, so they have not sent that report to us.”
Meanwhile, on Friday evening the committee issued a statement distancing itself from reports based on a leaked document, which said the committee had found the scandal had brought the party into disrepute but could not make determinations on the matter until the president had made his submissions.
In the statement, the commission’s chairperson George Mashamba said, “whatever report has been circulating is baseless and has no authority or stamp of approval from the integrity commission”.
He further said they rejected any reference to the commission as a “toothless” structure.
