Strict security measures and early road closures ahead of Soweto soccer derby
Updated | By Gerda de Sousa
Johannesburg Metro Police have warned the public that roads around the FNB stadium in Soweto will be closed from 10 am.
JMPD spokesperson Edna Mamonyane has urged those with tickets for Saturday afternoon's derby to arrive at the stadium as early as 11:30 am, when the gates are expected to be open.
The game between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates kicks off at 15:30.
"We don't want people to be pushing and shoving one another. We would like to see people be seated by 2pm, which is going to be a bit of a challenge", added Mamonyane.
Various roads in the vicinity of the stadium will be closed from 10 am, when officers will regulate traffic.
According to Mamonyane, only people with parking tickets will be allowed to enter the stadium.
"People are still not complying with our measures and we are asking supporters to please adhere to the rules."
