Struggling Eskom will not be privatised - Ramaphosa
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
President Cyril Ramaphosa has dismissed the accusations that government is planning to privatise struggling state-owned enterprises, including Eskom.

This follows claims by unions and political parties that government is purposely creating the Eskom crisis to allow for the privatisation of the power utility.
The country has been subjected to daily blackouts over the past few weeks as Eskom struggles to recover from a recent strike by workers and a general lack of generation capacity.
Speaking at the SACP conference in Boksburg on Friday Ramaphosa blamed state capture, poor management, corruption, and failure to adapt to new technology at SOEs.
"Accusations are thrown around that we want to sell cheap some of the SOEs, that is a lie. We are not through restructuring seeking to privatise, in fact, we are trying to modernise and ensure that the state continues to play its role in ensuring that these SOEs function well."
He says government will announce additional measures to address the current electricity crisis.
"We want to come up with new ideas of bringing new generation capacity on the grid. The severe economic, impact of load shedding means that we have to remove every regulatory obstacle to bring extra electricity to the grid as soon as possible."
