Sunnyside police join local community in prayer
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
Several Sunnyside policemen gathered at the St Micheal’s Anglican Church on Tuesday to pray with local clergymen.
The event comes amid a wave of violence and crime, mostly perpetrated by men.
Police spokesperson Daniel Mavimbela says some men have claimed that they were driven by evil spirits.
“Recently a 3-week-old baby was rescued by the police after she was found stashed inside a handbag on a street pavement," says Mavimbela.

During the prayer session, led by Pastor Katleho Ncaphe, the group pledged to mobilise other men in the community and rally behind the police.
"Soon we will be leading prayer and cleansing ceremonies at all the known crime hotspots in our area. The devil shall be defeated. Crime must fall," says Ncaphe.
The police are calling upon all the spiritual leaders to join the war “against the evil spirits and moral degeneration in Sunnyside”.
