A 36-year-old surfer died after a shark attack off the French island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean, local media reported Wednesday.
The man, who was on his honeymoon, was about 50 metres from the beach when the shark attacked twice, biting him on the arm and leg. He was pulled to shore by lifeguards, but they could not revive him. The man's wife saw the attack and was reportedly in a state of shock. The attack took place on the west coast of the island near Saint Gilles. It was the first shark attack reported this year in the popular vacation spot. Three people died there in shark attacks over the last two years.
