Suspect killed in Oriental Plaza shooting
One robber has been shot and killed while another has fled on foot during a shootout with security guards at FNB Bank in Oriental Plaza in Fordsburg.
Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says the two security guards were collecting money at FNB when they were confronted by armed robbers.
“The guards were confronted by the two suspects as they were leaving the bank after collecting money. A shootout ensued and one of the robbers was shot dead on scene and the other suspected fled the scene”, he says.
One of the guards was also shot and sustained serious injuries.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann says the guard was treated on scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.
