Updated | By Nokukhanya Mntambo
A 35-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Nelspruit District Court in Mpumalanga on Thursday after he was caught in possession of drugs worth R2.2 million.
It is alleged that the suspect was smuggling Mandrax into South Africa from Mozambique.
The suspect was intercepted by police following a tip-off on Wednesday.
"Mandrax tablets were found in the vehicle, with an estimated street value of R2.2 million and the suspect was arrested," says Mpumalanga police spokesperson Dineo Sekgotodi.
Last week the Hawks arrested 8 suspects in simultaneous drug raids in Mpumalanga and Gauteng where Mandrax and drug manufacturing chemicals were also confiscated.
