A 19-year-old suspect, accused of dousing his victim with fire and killing her, will appear at the Mmabatho Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
It's alleged that the 18-year-old victim was on her way home in Ramosadi village, Mafikeng before she was attacked by the perpetrator.
North West police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwobane says neighbours were alerted to the incident when they heard the victim screaming.
"Although she was found bleeding by members of the community she managed to inform them who the suspect was. We can confirm that she suffered 3rd degree burns.
"We can also confirm that the woman was stabbed five times and found with two scratches," he said.
The woman later succumbed to her injuries.
The suspect will appear in court on a charge of murder.
