Suspended Zuma remains loyal member of ANC, insists MK Party

The newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe Party says former president Jacob Zuma remains a loyal member of the ANC.
The governing party’s secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, announced the former president’s suspension from the ANC on Monday.
He said the ANC’s national executive committee unanimously voted to suspend Zuma from the party following his announcement in December that he would not campaign or vote for the ANC in this year’s hotly contested general elections.
Zuma has instead thrown his weight behind the newly formed MK Party.
MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela told Jacaranda FM News on Tuesday that Zuma remains a member of the ANC.
"Jacob Zuma is a member of the ANC, and he will die as a member of the ANC. These were Zuma's exact words on the 16th of December 2023.
"However, he is campaigning for u Mkhonto Wesizwe, which he made very clear is what he is going to do.
"We are a people's party; we do not just make decisions on our own; if people want Jacob Zuma, then so shall it be".
Ndhlela said the party has not yet decided if Zuma will be the face of the party during its election campaign.
Ndhlela said it would be up to the people to decide what role the former president plays in the run-up to the elections.
