Sylvester the lion on the loose again

The Lion, nicknamed Sylvester by the media, first escaped from the Park in the Beaufort West area in June 2015.

Over a period of 24 days Sylvester covered quite a distance, roaming from the Northern to the Western Cape.

He also killed 26 sheep and a kudu during his travels.

SanParks spokesperson, Fayroush Ludick said Sylvester, who now has satellite tracker around his neck, escaped from exactly the same spot as last time.

"The area that he is currently in is extremely rocky and the terrain is not good for following on foot.  The satellite last spotted him about 15km to 20km north west of the park boundary," said Ludick.

"The area experienced heavy rain over the weekend.  Soil washed away underneath the electric fencing and we believe that is how he got out again."

Ludick said an aircraft will be brought in to help with the search.
