Taps to remain dry in parts of Joburg
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Johannesburg Water has again warned residents of water supply interruption on Wednesday and Thursday.
The areas affected by the unplanned shutdown include Wynberg, Bramley, Alexandra, Raumarais Park, Kew, Whitney Gardens, Corlett Gardens, Lombardy, Formain, Rembrandt Ridge, Dunserven, Lyndhurst, Glenhazel, Sunningdale, Savoy Estate, Gresswald, Highlands North, Parkwood, Parktown, North, Parkhurst, Craighall and Hyde Park.
In a statement released on Monday afternoon, Joburg Water said it is experiencing water supply challenges due to supply constraints.
In some areas, there would be no water between 7am and 10pm on Tuesday.
Reasons for interruption include repairing a leaking valve, decommissioning of existing valves, tie-in of a new pipe, and maintenance work required on the bulk pipeline to ensure improved location of water tankers.
In Alexandra, affected areas include 9th Avenue, 11th and 12th Avenues between Selbon and Roosevelt Streets.
The water entity has also requested residents to observe level 1 water restrictions between 1 September and 31 March.
"These restrictions prohibit the use of hosepipes to water gardens, wash cars, clean driveways, as well as fill up swimming pools and water features between 06:00 and 18:00. Instead, the use of greywater is encouraged," the utility said.
