It is alleged that the deceased was entering his home when he was attacked and shot in the New Town suburb of Makhado town.

The deceased was identified as Ailwei Samuel Tshifhango, chairperson of the Louis Trichardt and Musina Taxi Association.

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety spokesperson Joel Seabi says they are concerned that the killing may be related to taxi violence in the area.

"We do call upon taxi industry that, while the police are still going on with investigations, they cannot rule out taxi violence to it and to that effect we call on the industry to try to ensure that issues are resolved without violence.

Seabi adds that Transport and Community Safety MEC Dickson Masemola has assembled a team of officials from the department and police to probe the incident.

"At this stage, the MEC has assembled a team from the department and the police to go down and investigate in whatsoever means necessary to find the possible causes of the incident and aid the investigation and also for us to bring the perpetrators to book."

The MEC has also called upon members of the taxi industry to remain calm and ensure that any of their conflicts are resolved through a dialogue and discussions.
