Taxi drivers descend on Uber office amid protest
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Taxi drivers have gathered outside Uber's office in Johannesburg amid an ongoing protest at the OR Tambo International Airport.
Metered taxi drivers are protesting the ride sharing service, saying their lower prices are putting pressure on their incomes.
They took to several highways this morning in protest.
According to reports, Uber drivers are now gathering outside their headquarters, accusing the company of not doing enough to protect them.
Johannesburg Metro Police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says the drivers have gathered at 7th Avenue and 3rd Avenue in Parktown north.
"Officers are currently present and monitoring the situation very closely," says Minnaar.
