Teen allegedly raped by fellow pupil
A high school learner has allegedly been raped by an older learner at a school in Benoni.
The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed a Grade 8 learner from a school in Benoni has allegedly been raped by a Grade 10 learner.
MEC Panyaza Lesufi broke the news during a media briefing at a school in Mamelodi, where a school security guard has been arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year old learner.
The incident is said to have happened at a matric dance held at a lodge in Bronkhorstspruit.

The department says the incident involving the Benoni learners took place during a farewell function.
"It's alleged that the learners organised a farewell function outside the schooling environment at a park in Benoni. The victim, who was under the influence of alcohol was offered a toilet by the boy learner who resides next to the said park. The boy allegedly raped the girl learner," the department says in a statement.
The boy was arrested and later released into the custody of his parents.
Meanwhile, Lesufi says the department is having a meeting next week with community policing forums to discuss the vetting of school security guards.
This follows the alleged sexual assault of 87 primary school girls at a primary school in Soweto and the 17 year-old Grade 12 learner at a school in Mamelodi.
