He was arrested on Saturday for allegedly stabbing a grade 11 pupil from King Edward VII school to death outside Madison Avenue nightclub in Sandton.

Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the suspect was arrested at the scene.

“Police were called to a scene at Wessels Road in Edenburg, Sandton. On arrival they found paramedics who had just certified a 17-year-old man dead, after he was found with a stab wound.

"Witnesses pointed the suspect on the scene. He was arrested and later charged with murder."

He says the motive of the murder is not yet known.

The nightclub has since released a statement on its Facebook page confirming the events leading up to the stabbing.

The club says its security intervened after a fight broke out.

“We then believed the situation was contained.  Approx 15 mins later, reports that an individual arrived (he had not previously been in the venue) who confronted him about 70m from our car park entrance. What followed was an attack and the victim was stabbed.

"Venue owner, security, police and emergency services were on scene to assist. The suspect was detained and is now in police custody."

The club says it was later discovered that the victim used a fake ID to gain entry to the venue.

"While there is a suspect is in custody, this doesn’t take away from the tragic event of last night. Our thoughts & prayers are with the victim’s family and friends whom we have spoken to already, offering our support, condolence and shared heartache. We understand the anguish that many of you are feeling, but we ask for calm and sensitivity in this difficult time for the sake of the family."

The school also released a statement, saying the affected pupils will receive counselling.
