A 14 year-old girl has been killed after she was hit by a train in Ballito, north of Durban this morning.

She was hit by a train as she was crossing the railway line at the Compensation Railway Station.
It appears that she was walking to school.
Netcare 911 paramedics say the teenager was still alive when they arrived on the scene.
"At around 7.00am today, we got a call that a girl had been struck by a train. When we arrived on scene we found the girl in a critical condition, she was wearing her school uniform. We worked alongside paramedics from another emergency service on scene. We can confirm that the girl was stabilised and transported to a nearby hospital," says spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
Mathe says she later died in hospital.
