A 16-year-old girl was killed during a shootout between armed robbers and security guards at Elim Mall in Waterval, Limpopo.
Gunfire rang out on Monday shortly after an unknown number of armed suspects robbed the guards of an undisclosed amount of money.
"According to the information, security officers were about to transport money collected from one of the shops when they were shot at by an unknown number of suspects,” says police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba.
"A crossfire ensued and in the process, a 16-year-old succumbed to injuries while another man (26) sustained injuries.”
The teenage girl died in hospital, while the suspects managed to flee the scene in a getaway vehicle.
Acting provincial police commissioner Jan Scheepers has ordered a massive manhunt for the suspects.
"When we stick together, nothing can defeat us. It is high time that the criminals realise that they have no room to operate in our society,” Scheepers said.
