A 17-year-old boy is expected to appear in the Ventersdorp Children's Court on Monday in connection with the alleged murder of 27-year-old Mapula Khune.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday following the discovery of Khune's body in a house in Tshing, outside Ventersdorp, in North-West.
The victim is the sister of Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.
According to provincial police spokesperson Adele Myburgh, emergency services were called in the early hours of Thursday morning after neighbours saw smoke coming from the house.
"After forcing entry into a back room, emergency services personnel discovered the severely burnt body of Khune on top of her bed,” Myburgh explains.
"Only the back room was damaged during the fire.
Following the incident, there were several reports of mob justice in the area.
"Since Friday, additional cases of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm have been reported as community street patrollers and family members have allegedly been assaulting alleged perpetrators for the murder of Khune,” Myburgh says.
