The 18-year-old boy accused of the murder of Western Cape magistrate Romay van Rooyen has abandoned his bid for bail.
Cassidy Hartzenberg made his second appearance at the Simonstown Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where he was expected to apply for bail.
The 52-year-old was killed at her home in Marina da Gama, near Muizenberg, in September.
Relatives found Van Rooyen strangled in her Cape Town home last month.
Her missing car was found in Mitchells Plain a day after her death.
Police have also revealed that Hartzenberg was a close relative of Van Rooyen.
NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says the state will oppose bail should Hartzenberg change his mind.
"He abandoned his bail application and the case was postponed to 8 November 2022 for further investigation. If he changes his mind and decides to apply for bail, the State will oppose that bail application. He remains in custody until his next appearance.”
Hartzenberg faces charges of murder, and theft of her vehicle and money.
