Tembisa protests turn deadly as one person shot and killed
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell has confirmed the death of one person amid the ongoing service delivery protests in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg.

The person was shot and killed after residents took to the streets again on Monday morning.
Residents are angry at Campbell, who failed to show up at a community meeting on Friday.
Roads in and around Tembisa were blocked with burning tyres and rocks.
“There were petrol bombs that were thrown at EMPD officers,” said Campbell. “This is not a behaviour of residents but people trying to cause unrest.”
Campbell said she won’t be able to meet with residents while there are acts of violence.
“The MMCs have been deployed. However until the situation is calm within Tembisa we do not want to interfere with the EMPD operation, because of the element of criminality happening right now.”
