Residents shut down Tembisa after mayor no-show
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Protesting Tembisa residents took to the streets on Monday morning in yet another shutdown.

Residents are angry after Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell failed to show up at a community meeting on Friday.
Metro police spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa says Campbell was supposed to meet with residents and give feedback on their memorandum of demands.
“The residents expressed dissatisfaction after her no-show and took to the street to protest.
“The mayor sent other city officials to address the masses, but discussions collapsed, and Intel gathered that 1 August 2022 Tembisa will be ‘shutdown’.”

The area has since been cleared.
Roads around Tembisa have also been blocked with burning tyres and rocks.
Thipa says protesters are pelting passing vehicles with stones along New Road and Esselen Park.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the area.
