Dlamini was expected to make his first court appearance on charges of  housebreaking, theft and malicious damage to property.

He was arrested on Thursday evening after charges were laid against him by Dobsonville resident Victor Ramerafe.

Ramerafe has been accused of dealing drugs in Dobsonville.

The Soweto resident laid criminal charges against Dlamini earlier in the week after his home by allegedly ransacked by members of Operation Dudula, who accused him of dealing in drugs.

The EFF accompanied Ramerafe to the police station.

Members of Operation Dudula gathered outside the court building on Thursday in support of their leader, with some accusing EFF leader Julius Malema of influencing the decision to arrest Dlamini.

One of the members of the so-called ‘Soweto Parliament’ Cyber “Cheese” Makola lashed out at Malema and accused him of being in favour of the high crime levels in the area.

The EFF has been vocal in its criticism of Operation Dudula, labelling the movement as “criminal and thuggish” for its stance on foreign nationals.

Operation Dudula secretary-general Zandile Dabula says their members do not understand why Dlamini has been arrested.

She warned that Dlamini’s continued detention could lead to violence.

Dlamini will spend the weekend behind bars and is expected to apply for bail on Monday.
