There is no crisis in IFP, claims Hlabisa

The leader of the Inkatha Freedom Party Velenkosini Hlabisa has denied claims of a crisis within the party.
Hlabisa addressed the media on Tuesday following an IFP national executive committee meeting.
"There is no crisis in the IFP. The party is solid, strong and united in serving South Africa," said Hlabisa.
The party’s NEC met on Monday, in part to discuss a petition from 20 members, requesting a special urgent sitting of the IFP’s National Council.
The petition was drawn up by a faction within the IFP, going against Hlabisa.
Hlabisa said the members appeared before the NEC on Monday, but two of them had since withdrawn their signatures from the petition.
"The National Council members were called to appear before the NEC yesterday, 7 August, to engage colleagues on their petition on the basis that they have not substantiated their petition. Two signatories withdrew their signatures from the petition yesterday. The petition no longer holds constitutional muster in terms of the IFP constitution, which prescribes a minimum of 20 members.”
The battle inside the IFP comes as its founder, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, remains in hospital due to health complications.
Hlabisa said the 94-year-old is doing well in hospital.
"I can say without any hesitation, from the latest information I received this morning, that umntwana wakwa Phinda Ngene is doing very well in the hospital.”
