Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Three suspected kidnappers are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Monday following their dramatic arrest over the weekend.
The suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg metro police in Kensington on Saturday afternoon.
It is understood that the undercover officers witnessed a hijacking incident after which a high-speed chase ensued followed by a shoot-out.
Metro police spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the suspects were all out on bail.
“The Toyota Quantum used by suspects lost control and crashed into a tree, two hostages were rescued, and one suspect fled in a Toyota Etios. No injuries were reported.
“The arrested suspects are most wanted for hijackings, armed and business robberies in the Jeppe area, and they were charged with hijacking, kidnapping, and possession of unlicensed firearms.”
