The three suspects, believed to be members of the Economic Freedom Fighters' Student Command, were arrested yesterday.

Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi says the suspects, one of whom is a serving member of the Student Representative Council and two former TUT students, allegedly demanded R100 000 from a security company owner in exchange to ensure the company's contract is extended by the institution.

"The National Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit and Crime Intelligence got hold of the information and an undercover operation was instituted.  The three were arrested shortly after receiving R40 000 in cash," says Mulaudzi.

They are expected to appear before the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria on Thursday.
