Three Western Cape officials in court for fraud

Three officials from the Kannaland Municipality in the Western Cape have been arrested on allegations of fraud

The officials were arrested by the Hawks on Thursday.
The unit’s Spokesperson Katlego Mogale says the accused were released on R15 000 bail each after making a brief appearance in the Ladismith Magistrate’s Court.
The officials include the Director of Corporate Services Hendrick Barnard, the former CFO Nigel Delo, municipal manager Morne Hoogbaard and human resources manager McGrandile Makier.
“It is alleged that they defrauded the municipality of more than R338 million by enriching themselves through fraudulent appointments in senior positions, acting allowances and the company owned by one of them benefitted whilst the owner was working for the municipality,” says Mogale.
The matter was postponed to 26 January.
