Township education can be quality learning & teaching, says Lesufi

Pupils attending inland schools started the new academic year on Wednesday while many parents in Gauteng are still queuing at district offices to place their children into a school.
Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has apologised for the backlog and vowed to place all the pupils by the end of January.
“It’s a huge struggle to change the mindset of our people to say that township education can be quality education. There are people who want to apply at a school in town purely because they like that uniform,” he said.
He was in Sebokeng to officially handover a newly built Setlabotjha Primary School.
Pupils were previously taught in temporary structures.
The school has smart learning with interactive smart boards laptops for pupils.
It cost just over R95 million to build, according to the MEC for infrastructure development in Gauteng.
“We are left with 700 kids, I committing that we will place these learners before month end,” said Lesufi.
