Tremor recorded ahead of bridge collapse
Updated | By Nathan Daniels & Laila Majiet
The Council for Geoscience has confirmed a tremor was recorded in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
It was recorded hours before a pedestrian bridge collapsed on the N3.
The tremor measured 2.7 on the moment magnitude scale, according to the Council for Geoscience.
Senior scientist Michelle Grobbelaar says the tremor is not necessarily linked to the incident.
Residents in the south of Johannesburg took to social media with reports of the tremor.
Some say they were left shaken at around midnight.
The pedestrian bridge collapsed on the N3 highway shortly afterwards.
Five people were injured after a truck and a car drove into the collapsed bridge in the early hours of yesterday morning.
