The City of Tshwane has cautioned the public not to believe a misleading message about water pollution.
The message has done the rounds on social media platforms in the form of a notice in which residents are urged not to drink tap water.
According to the fake notice, the declaration was purported to have come from the Tshwane Municipality and was issued on Monday.
The said circulated warning further states that "the water is contaminated and causes Typhoid Flu."
However, City of Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the message and the notice spread fake news.
"We urge the public to always be vigilant of bogus messages. Accompanying this alert is the bogus notice."
