The City of Tshwane has suspended its bus service for a second day saying it needs to protect both the city's assets and commuters from possible harm.
City workers downed tools on Monday pending the outcome of wage negotiations.
The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU), the Independent Municipal & Allied Trade Union (Imatu) and the city are deadlocked in wage negotiations.
Tshwane mayoral spokesperson Omogolo Taunyane says the continued disruption to bus operations is costing the city.
"Just to speak on the suspension of the Tshwane bus services since the day before yesterday means the city hasn't been in a position to collect revenue.
"You will remember the scenes that we saw in July, the immense cost at which it came to the city due to our inability to collect revenue because our services were disrupted. We are avoiding finding ourselves in a situation such as that."
The city has given an assurance that it is doing its utmost to ensure the bus services resume on Wednesday afternoon.
Taunyane called for residents to remain patient.
"For now we are just asking for our residents to be patient with us as we try to reach a conclusion on this matter.”
