The city launched its Easter road safety operations along with the national police at the N1 Carousel Toll Plaza on Tuesday.

This, as thousands of South Africans are expected to travel to their different destinations over the Easter long weekend.

Last year 252 people lost their lives on the roads during the Easter Period.

Brink gave the following tips to ensure a safe journey:

  • Make sure that you drive roadworthy vehicles.
  • Don't drive like a psychopath.
  • Don't be in haste to get to your destination.
  • Only take your celebration drink at the end of the journey
  • Don't drink and drive.

According to him, all these factors inhibit your ability to control your vehicle, or to respond to events that are outside of your control.
