Tshwane mayor set to announce new MMCs on Friday

New Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink is expected to announce the names of his mayoral committee members on Friday.

Brink was elected mayor on Tuesday after nearly three weeks of the city being without a mayor.

The city’s mayoral post was left vacant after Congress of the People’s Murunwa Makwarela resigned amid an insolvency saga.

Brink is locked in a race against time to meet the April 14 deadline to pass the municipality’s adjustments budget.

“I’ve met with the city manager to get a clear picture of city finances, met with coalition partners as we work towards putting together a fit-for-purpose mayoral committee,” said Brink.

The new team of MMCs will consist of members from the multiparty coalition as per the coalition agreement.

Brink is confident the new administration will be able to hit the ground running.

“The new administration is committed to building a capital city that works for all its people by improving basic services, ensuring strong financial management and addressing unscheduled power outages, among other priorities,” he said.
