A Tshwane metro police has been arrested in Mpumalanga for allegedly attempting to hijack a truck.
The metro cop and two other suspects were arrested on the N4 near Phola on Wednesday.
One of the suspects was wearing a Tshwane metro police uniform at the time of the incident.
It was later established that he was not a member of the force.
Tshwane MMC for Community Safety Grandi Theunissen says the department has since confirmed that one of the other two suspects is a constable in the metro police.
"It is alleged that the three suspects were conspiring with others to hijack a truck. The police uncovered that the vehicle they were using was reportedly hijacked in Daveyton. Two network jamming devices were found in the vehicle and confiscated as evidence.
“When police interviewed the suspects, it was established that there was another vehicle in the vicinity which sped off after realising that the police were on their tail," says Theunissen.
The three suspects appeared in court on Wednesday.
"The three suspects were detained at Phola Police Station and are charged with possession of jamming devices, stolen motor vehicle, and impersonating a police officer.”
