Several embassies, hospitals businesses and government departments have been left dry.

Tshwane spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, says the technicians have started gradually turning the water on to test the new pipe.

"A proper, secure bedding has been established to rest the pipe, the balls have been tightened, the pipe has been compacted within the special soil compound that stiffens it when worked," says Mashigo.

"The teams have started turning the water on, every 20 mins they will increase the flow and if all goes well, they will continue until the 1000 mm is at full strength."

He adds that water stations are still located at strategic points across the affected areas.

"The City pleads with residents to be patient during this period as it maintains its presence," says Mashigo.
