Tshwane residents urged to report illegal dumping over the festive season
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
The City of Tshwane has called on residents to report illegal dumping during the festive season.
Tshwane temporarily closed certain refuse sites in November and earlier this month to clear the backlog that was caused by the illegal strike in the city.
Tshwane Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Agriculture and Environment, Ziyanda Zwane, says illegal dumping poses a serious threat to the environment.
"Recycling is essential to reducing the environmental impact of waste, but illegal recycling practices lead to pollution, health risks and ecosystem degradation.
"To protect our open areas, we must all work together to stop unlawful recycling, to safeguard these precious resources and to build a community that values and respects the environment.”
Meanwhile, Tshwane has announced that the refuse collection schedule will be followed as normal during this festive season, including on public holidays, except on Christmas day.
