The City of Tshwane says its technicians are making significant progress in their efforts to restore power to the residents of Lyttelton and Kloofsig who have been left powerless since the fire at the Kloofsig substation early Wednesday morning.
Spokesperson for the City of Tshwane, Selby Bokaba, says they expect further work to be completed by Thursday afternoon.
“After the substation was gutted by fire in the early hours of yesterday morning, the installation of the switch gear and cable termination have been completed at the the Kloofsig Substation.
“Testing will be done after completing the Barnard Park Substation’s cable identification, which is expected to be done around lunchtime today.
“The identification of feeder cables from Lyttleton and Die Hoewes has already begun, which would be followed by the joining of the feeder cables to the Barnard Park Substation. Once all these processes have been completed, testing would commence from around lunchtime.”
Bokaba adds that the rainy weather may delay repair work.
“Due to the incessant rain delaying the work, we will advise later this afternoon the anticipated gradual power restoration time.”
