Tshwane schools affected by water shortage
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Water shortages in Tshwane is so severe that some schools have sent learners home.
President of the South African Principal's Association, Daya Chetty, says the problem started in the Laudium area in particular on Saturday morning.
"The problem with the water was really unsanitary, because the toilets could not be filled with water. The teachers and the learners could not get water," says Chetty.
Chetty says the soaring temperatures are not helping.
"You have heatwaves and at the same time you don't have water supply. Drinking water is not available for learners during break time," says Chetty.
He says water tanks have been sent to the areas, but it should be sent to schools as well.
"It's almost exam time for Grade 8 to 11. My concern is that without water supply, how does an exam continue? I'm hoping that this water supply will be resolved by today, because it will affect learner attendance."
