Tshwane urges residents to report illegal sale of water
Updated | By Emile Pienaar
The city of Tshwane has called on residents to report the illegal sale of water.
The City received information that service providers are not filling up communal JoJo tanks meant for the community, but instead are filling up private tanks on private properties and then selling the water to surrounding communities.
The MMC for Human Settlements Ofentse Madzebatela says they have informed the metro police to investigate the matter.
"These actions are illegal as they deprive residents off their right to free, clean, potable
water.
"The provision of water is a basic human rights and therefore the city is keeping to its end. We are urging all our service providers to stick to the SLA and SOP standards that we have provided, failure to do so will lead to an immediate termination of services".
