Tshwane 'doing all it can' as Samwu strike enters third week
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink says the city is doing all it can to deliver services to residents amid the ongoing Samwu strike.
Workers affiliated with the South African Municipal Workers Uniom embarked on a strike at the end of July in protest over the non-payment of salary increases.
The strike led to disruptions in services such as electricity repair, water restoration and refuse removal.
There have been reports of non-striking employees being intimidated and attacked.
Brink says more dismissal letters have been prepared and will be issued on Thursday.
"Yesterday, dismissal letters were issued to six more officials who have been identified as being at the forefront of driving the unlawful strike action. More letters with the intention to dismiss employees have been prepared and will be issued today.
"We are taking every action available to us to ensure that we continue with the business of the city."
