Tshwane on high alert, alternative emergency number issued
Updated | By Lebohang Ndashe
The City of Tshwane remains on high alert for heavy downpours forecast for the region, causing potential risks to public safety and infrastructure.
By Tuesday morning, Tshwane has reported no major incidents, but Emergency Management Services (EMS) teams remain vigilant.
The city’s 107 toll-free emergency number still remains down, with intermittent connectivity issues.
In a statement issued on Monday, the City confirmed that its technical support team is working tirelessly to fix the issue, which was caused by a damaged fibre line leading to congestion in both incoming and outgoing calls.
Tshwane EMS spokesperson, Lindsay Mnguni, says restoring the system is top priority and the team is working swiftly to resolve the issue.
Residents are urged the public to use alternative numbers for fire and rescue emergencies - 083 232 5398 or 082 879 1191.
“We will continue to keep the community informed through this channel as we receive updates,” Mnguni concludes.
