Ngenzeni Zuma, 74, was attacked in her Sweetwaters home at the weekend by assailants who pretended to be from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

It's understood she let them in after they claimed to have been sent to sanitise her house because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Her body was found by her grandson on Sunday.

Provincial police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says the killing is being investigated by the provincial organised crime unit.

"A 27-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in KwaShange in Pietermaritzburg, whereas a 24-year-old was traced in Point in the Durban area.

"Intensive police investigation have linked the suspects to the rape of a 20-year-old female, who was allegedly raped on the same night.

Mbele adds: “The suspects will also be charged for another rape. They will also be profiled to determine if they can be linked to other pending cases in the province."

The suspects will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
