Two arrested over Nomzamo tavern shooting

Police spokesperson, Brenda Muridili says national Crime Intelligence officers arrested one suspect on 22 September who was then linked to the Nomzamo delay incident in Johannesburg that left 14 people dead.

The police in Gauteng have confirmed that two suspects that have been linked to the July 2022 Nomzamo shooting incident have been arrested. 


Police spokesperson, Brenda Muridili says national Crime Intelligence officers arrested one suspect on 22 September who was then linked to the Nomzamo delay incident in Johannesburg that left 14 people dead.


"The suspect was handed over to Gauteng’s murder and robbery investigating team for further handling," she say. 


"He then led the team to one of his accomplices who was arrested in Northern Cape on 23 September."

"The team proceeded to arrest two more suspects, linked to a murder case for an incident that occurred in Kliptown in October 2021 where a Lesotho musician was killed. He is also linked to another murder and attempted murder case that occurred in Orlando in May 2022," Muridili adds. 


The fourth suspect was apprehended on a warrant of arrest for a double murder incident that occurred in Doornkop in 2021 where two Basotho nationals were killed.


The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has commended the team and National Crime Intelligence for the breakthrough in the case. 


Muridili says investigations are continuing and more arrests are expected.


All four suspects will be appearing at the Orlando Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 26 September 2022.
