Two illegal miners surface in Langlaagte
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Two illegal miners surfaced at a disused mine shaft in Langlaagte in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.
Johannesburg Emergency workers suspended efforts to rescue trapped illegal miners earlier this morning, saying it's unlikely that any more people were trapped underground - despite family and friends believing two of their loved ones were unaccounted for.
Five zama-zamas were brought to safety since an underground fire broke out last week, with the body of a sixth recovered last night.
The two men show surfaced say they have been underground for two weeks, but were afraid to come out yesterday.
They say they heard a lot of people underground, but didn't see any dead miners.
Police have arrested seven people for illegal mining.
