Two people have been injured in a fire at an ink factory in Kempton Park.
The blaze at Siegwerk South Africa in the Spartan industrial area broke out on Monday afternoon.
Ekurhuleni emergency services spokesperson William Ntladi said the two staff members were injured while attempting to extinguish the fire.
"EMS is attending to a huge structural fire at a factory dealing with alcohol-based material. The actual cause of the fire is still not determined, however, the preliminary information received is that there was a spark in the ethanol-based plant, whereby it set the entire structure alight.
"We have about four fire engines on site that managed to be contained and extinguish the blaze. I can confirm that two people have been hospitalised with minor injuries."
Ntladi said about 10 tons of ethanol-based material caught alight.
"The company is now doing a rehabilitation; there is about 10 tons of ethanol that burnt down. For now the rapid spill personnel are cleaning up the scene," he added.
