Two injured in Soweto cash-in-transit heist

Gauteng police are searching for an unknown number of suspects after a cash-in-transit heist left two people injured in Soweto on Monday.

Police spokesperson Atlenda Mathe says the incident happened on Chris Hani Road near Bara Taxi rank as security guards were heading into an ATM.
"There were accosted by a group of men who began shooting randomly and unfortunately, two innocent bystanders were shot and injured.
"They were treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital."

Mathe says the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
"The national commissioner (Khehla Sitole) has instructed the implementation of the 72-hour activation plan - which is the mobilisation of resources to hunt down the unknown number of suspects."
A case of armed robbery has been opened.
