Two killed in Mamelodi during looting
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Police have confirmed that two people were shot and killed in Mamelodi on Tuesday night when a shop was looted.
Police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said two cases of murder were being investigated.
Kweza said over 40 people have been arrested since violent protests first broke out in Tshwane on Sunday.
"We have arrested over 40 people in Atteridgeville, Hercules, Mabopane, Soshanguve and Mamelodi for public violence, possession of stolen goods and malicious damage to property," she said.
"Police are monitoring the unrest in areas around Tshwane and we can expect more arrests."
Kweza called on the public to desist from sending false SMSes about the situation in Tshwane.
It comes after a hoax message was circulated earlier this week.
