Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has confirmed that the flooding in Tshwane has claimed the life of one person.
The body of a person who had been swept away by flood waters in the area on Monday was found in Centurion on Tuesday morning.
A mother has also been reported missing in Mamelodi, while in Shoshanguve, a man was electrocuted to death.
Dlamini-Zuma and Gauteng Human Settlements and Cooperative Governance MEC Lebogang Maile visited areas affected by the floods on Monday.
The worst affected area has been Eerste Fabrieke in Mamelodi, where an estimated 700 shacks were affected by torrential rains.
In total, almost 1000 people have been displaced in Mamelodi.
The provincial disaster management services were still busy assessing the extent of the damage on Tuesday, with the affected residents given temporary shelter in different community halls and centers across Mamelodi and Nelmapius.
Dlamini-Zuma says the formation of sinkholes due to the large amount of water is another concern.
''There are several areas where there are sinkholes and that has to be monitored closely across Tshwane and the province as a whole.
"We are also activating health people to make sure that if there are secondary problems of water-borne diseases as well as home affairs, because some people have lost their identity documents, Sassa cards, etcetera."
