Two new licencing centres set to open in Gauteng
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
The Department of Transport is set to open two new licencing centres in Gauteng in October.
The opening of the new centres comes amid the marking of transport month.
It also comes amid a massive backlog in the issuing of driver’s licences in the province.
Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesperson Simon Zwane says the new centres will hopefully lessen some of the public’s frustration with the renewal process.
“The initiative is part of efforts to improve efficiency and reduce the backlog in expired licences caused by the imposition of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
“The two centres at Road Traffic Management Corporation premises at Eco-Park, Centurion and Waterfall Office Park in Midrand will allow the public to renew driving licences, professional driving permits and conversion of foreign driving licences.
“The centres will usher a new era of digitalisation in the traffic management sector where long queues will be eliminated.”
The centres will officially open on Thursday.
