Tzaneen petrol attendant attackers jailed

Two men who assaulted a Tzaneen petrol attendant have been sentenced to up to two years behind bars.
Marthinus Hermanus van Dyk and Danie le Roux, were sentenced in the Tzaneen Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Tzaneen petrol attendant Johannes Monyela was attacked at a petrol station on Saturday 18 June.
CCTV footage of attack was widely shared on social media.
The attack was believed to be racially motivated.
Limpopo police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe says: "Van Dyk was sentenced to two years on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and crimen injuria. Le Roux was sentenced to 18 months for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm."
Following the attack, Cosatu in Limpopo called for provincial detectives of the South African Police Service to take over the investigations into alleged racist attacks in the province.
